Mr. Werner is the father of Dr. Katarina Jones. He has a close relationship with his daughter. A German by citizenship, he prefers to speak in German with other native speakers although he is conversant in English as well. He knows enough to understand the implications of his daughter's research, though not to the degree that Katarina can.
Biography[]
In 2015, following the failure of Katarina's marriage to Elliot Jones, Mr. Werner flew to the USA and met with her in an attempt to convince his daughter to return to Berlin. He and his wife missed having Katarina around, and thought she could use her medical training to start a life much closer to home. However, Katarina was interested in quantum physics not medicine, and Raritan Valley was the only facility in the world focused on quantum splintering.
Mr. Werner asked if Katarina's failed marriage had anything to do with her decisions. She preferred to keep it in the past, deeming it a mistake. Mr. Werner argued that falling in love is never a mistake, that it can't be calculated or predicted, though Katarina declared she didn't have any use for it. He further argued it's the heart, not the mind, that sustains people, and Katarina can't live on science alone. As they were at the end of their meeting, Katarina bid her father good night, hailed a cab, and went their separate ways.
He eventually succumbed to the Kalavirus plague, although it is unclear if he died from the one released in 2016 or 2018. (One Hundred Years)
